Primary 1 pupil abused by her guardian

A primary 1 pupil of Amufi primary school Ikpoba-Okha LGA was battered by her guardian. The child whose head was bleeding due to the hard hit was discovered by her class teacher. A call was put across to the guardian of the child to report to the school immediately. The husband to the child abuser arrived and decided to take the child away but was prevented by the teachers which resulted in the exchange of words and the man hauling abuses at the teachers. According to him, “you common teachers cannot do anything.”

Ohen of Amufi community Iyi-Ewuare Asenoguan, who has been actively involved in the growth and development of the school sent representatives to handle the case. Speaking on his behalf, community members appreciated the efforts of the teachers and SUBEB officials and pleaded for the authority to temper justice with mercy and that they would ensure that the abuse does not continue.

Made the angry guardian to apologize to the teacher. According to the SUBEB boss “Governor Obaseki is committed to restoring the prestige of the teaching profession in Edo state therefore, abuse of any kind against our teachers by irate parents or guardians will not be tolerated, especially when our teachers are trying to do the right thing. Special thanks to the HM and IST at Amufi Primary School for taking steps to protect a little girl from an abusive guardian.” The Pupil was taken to specialist hospital for treatment, afterwards she was handed over to Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development who promptly arrested the abusive guardian.
