Edo SUBEB organises Appreciation Luncheon for SBMC Advisory Committee Members on their completion of tenure

The event was put together by the Board to appreciate the School Based Management Committee (SBMC) Advisory Committee members who have served their communities by promoting community participation in public primary schools across the 18 LGAs in Edo state.

So far, 11,689 SBMC members across the state have been trained on how to contribute to the development of their school. Upto 50 million Naira in School Improvement Grant is also been disbursed to selected SBMCs across the 18 LGAs to carry out macro and micro projects in their schools. In conjunction with the Universal Basic Education Commission, the grant ranges from #250,000 to #7,000,000 and are used for projects such as procurement of school furniture, fencing and school renovations. Communities are expected to contribute 5% in counterpart funds or sweat equity, also known as free labor.

In her remarks, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe anchored the Board’s achievements in school communities across the state on the support and cooperation enjoyed from the SBMC Advisory Committee and other SBMC members in the state.

“Though your tenure is ending, your contributions to the development of your communities can not be forgotten.You will be remembered as pioneer SBMC Advisory Committee members that contributed to the success of Edo BEST in the grassroots”

In their various remarks, SBMC Advisory Committee members in turn appreciated Gov. Godwin Obaseki for his support and deep commitment to the educational welfare of their children, grandchildren and great grand children.

They also thanked SUBEB for selecting them to serve on the committee on the basis of merit while eschewing croynism and nepotism.

The outgone SBMC Advisory Committee members advised the Board to look into critical issues raised in order to enhance the sustainability of Edo BEST.
