Edo SUBEB Commissioned 18 motorbikes ahead School resumption

Ahead of Monday January 13th resumption date of public primary Schools in Edo state,Edo state Universal Basic Education Board,(SUBEB) has given 18 motorbikes to the local Government Education Secretaries in the 18 local government areas of Edo State.

Speaking at a 2 day retreat organized for LGEA and SUBEB staff, the Executive Chairman, SUBEB,Dr Joan Osa Oviawe explained that the initiatives is part of the Edo Basic Education sector transformation (Edo BEST) which aimed at national development and quality Assurance.

Dr Oviawe told the Education Officers from the 18 local government areas that the motorbikes which will be distributed to Quality assurance Officers in each of the LGEAs was to help in mobility so that they can effectively monitor schools in their areas of jurisdiction.

She said ” We are paying attention to quality Assurance and not just the rhetoric of inspecting schools.Some of our local government areas have already gotten motorboats in order for them to be able to go to Schools in riverine areas.”

She continued “When we discovered that the major challenge of assessing schools in rural areas was motorable roads,we decided in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education commission (UBEC) to procure motorbikes.This is just the first phase, more motorcycles are coming”.

The SUBEB boss disclosed that the government has already committed other resources in order to help all in LGEA across the state to be able to do their work based on their performance index.

She assured that the state government is determine to turn around the fortune of basic Education by giving quality basic Education to school children, the future leaders of the country.
