Edo Public Primary Schools Observe Open Day

As part of the ongoing transformation at the basic education sub-sector of the State as propelled by the Edo BEST Initiative, the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), organized another Open Day in public primary schools, the first in this academic session.

Open Day, is an opportunity for parents or guardians to have a one on one interaction with their Children or wards’ teachers who intimate them on the academic performance and developmental strides of the pupils. It also allows new pupils to become familiar with facilities as well as the opportunity to familiarise themselves with other pupils. In the same vein, it opens both formal and informal communication channels between the school’s staff and the parents.

This term’s Open Day which held October 25th 2018 recorded a large turnout by Parents and guardians alike. In several schools teachers were seen having interactive sessions with parents.

At Ekhei Primary School in Etsako West Local Government, pupils were seen in excitement singing energisers to welcome their parents. It was an awesome moment as parents, teachers and the pupils had the opportunity to meet again barely a week after the Grand Opening.

In Adolor Primary School Benin, the scenario was not different as teachers were seen sensitising parents on the need to prioritise their children’s primary education. Teachers also took out time to lecture parents on their responsibilities, and their roles in the Edo BEST scheme.

At Eguare Primary School in Esan Central Local Government Area, teachers were dressed in Edo BEST T-Shirts as many were seen having interactive sessions with parents and thereafter took photographs with parents present.

Addressing the teachers at Okuor Primary School in Orhionmwon Local Government Area, a parent, Mr Lucky Aghedo was passionate in appreciating the school’s authority and the teachers for the innovation. “This is the school I attended as a child. I was here from 1963 to 1968. This little English I speak was gotten from this school. But I must say that you the teachers are different. I so much praise you people. If the pupils are ready to learn you teachers are always ready to teach them very well. That is why you have brought the parents here today”, he stated.

In Family Support Programme Primary School Benin, parents commended the Edo BEST Initiative and clamoured for its sustenance. “We normally take our children to private schools because of all these things but today we see them in government schools. I think it is a good upliftment”, one of the parents Mrs Ehigie, noted.

Speaking about the Open Day event, the SUBEB Chairman commended the teachers for their compliance with new innovations at the basic education level. ” Open Day has been overwhelming in a good way! Parents came to school in large numbers, our head teachers and teachers deserve accolades for the excellent job of ensuring that they are compliant with the innovations being introduced”, she noted.

The Edo BEST Initiative is one that is predicated on the wheel of progress. Community participation remains a major pillar of this initiative and such events as Open Day facilitates more commitments from the communities. With such innovations it is certain that public schools in Edo State will churn out pupils who would be better prepared to contribute meaningfully to societal progress and development.

Edo BEST provides quality education for every child.
