Inanela Blessing, a Primary 4 pupil of Azama Primary
School, Jattu, in Estako West LGA, applauded the idea of equipping teachers and headteachers with computers and smart phones. This she noted has made teaching and learning easier. “Teachers no longer use lesson notes, they now use computers to teach and this has made teaching and learning easy” Blessing noted. She also stressed that the idea of writing the names of pupils who have performed and behaved excellently on the Character Board, has greatly improved pupils’ performance and encourages them to become more attentive and involved in classroom activities.
Another pupil from Adesuwa Primary School in Oredo LGA, Juliet Onaghise, who recently had a one-on-one interaction with the Executive Governor of Edo state, Mr Godwin Obaseki, on the activities and progress of Edo BEST in public primary schools in the State, noted that the initiative has increased pupils’ love for schooling. “We are now very eager to come to school and also participate in class activities. Our schools have been renovated with beautiful drawings on the walls of our classrooms. This makes us want to be in school always and learn”, Miss Juliet noted.
In a similar vein, Mrs Esekhaigbe Aminu a teacher in Eguare Primary School (Irrua) in Esan Central LGA, noted that the use of teacher’s device has made teaching easy for the teachers compared to when they were using lesson notes, as it saves time and energy. “Salaries are paid in time. This motivates the teachers to do their work with enthusiasm. Teacher’s now come to school early and regularly. There is Explosion in population because of the new method of teaching”, Mrs Esekhaigbe noted.
When the Governor Godwin Obaseki administration introduced the Edo BEST initiative to transform public primary schools and restore basic education in the State to its pride of place, no one ever envisaged that its impact would resonate across the length and breadth of the country and beyond. Pupils and teachers alike keep recounting the changes that have been witnessed since the advent of Edo BEST.
