School Feeding Programme commences in Uhumwonde and Orhionmwon

he National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) which was launched by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo at Eyaen Primary School in Uhunmwode Local Government Area about a month ago has officially commenced in Uhunmwode and Orhionmwon which are the pilot LGAs. The programme is expected to be gradually extended to other local government areas.

The Edo State Government working in accord with the Federal Government is committed to providing the enabling environment that would motivate pupils of public primary schools in the State in their academic pursuit. The Governor Godwin Obaseki administration is determined to further reduce to its barest minimum, the number of out-of-school children in the State with Edo already credited with the least number of out-of-school children in Nigeria.

The National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) has been successfully incorporated into the framework of the Edo BEST initiative which afford pupils in every part of the state easy and equal access to quality education. The NHGSFP is also geared towards curbing the rural-urban migration culture which has greatly contributed to the slow developmental pace of rural communities.

Earlier in an interview session, Mrs Josephine Uwaifo, a parent of two pupils in Odia Primary School in Orhionmwon LGA, expressed her delight in the initiative. According to her, “The meals would motivate the pupils and help them pay closer attention to their classes”.

The welfare of pupils remains at the centre piece of the Edo BEST programme. No nation can transcend the level of education offered its citizenry. It is therefore a cardinal objective of Edo BEST to ensure that pupils are well catered for and provided quality learning in order to guarantee them a bright future.

Edo BEST provides quality education for every child.
