Edo SUBEB Felicitates Teachers on the Occasion of International Teachers’ Day

The Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), congratulates public primary school teachers across the State on the auspicious occasion of the International Teachers’ Day celebration. Like the regular maxim goes “If you can read and write, thank your teacher”.

Beyond this maxim, it goes without saying that schools and educational institutions certainly do not rest upon the ground, rather, they rest upon the teachers. This is why the Governor Godwin Obaseki administration has made the Teacher Development Exercise a priority.

At the wake of the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (Edo BEST) initiative, the training and retraining of teachers in tech based pedagogy and modern teaching techniques came to the fore. This was initiated to build capacity among teachers and make them fit for the 21st Century classroom in any part of the world. Today, over ten thousand five hundred (10500) teachers have been trained in this programme.

Edo BEST teachers have also experienced a career progression. Many have upscaled the ladder from being classroom teachers to field officers, and many as well have become Heads of Sessions, taking on more administrative and supervisory roles.

This administration has re-enacted merit, transparency and equity in decision making to give all teachers irrespective of creed a fair chance. It has also eliminated undue financial burden and other forms of extortion. Payment of fees to process retirement and to be selected for the teacher professional development training, has been abolished.

Reward and opportunities for teachers have been created. More teachers have been scheduled to be sent abroad in the coming years to afford them more training and exposure. Due to our regular training and retraining of teachers, through seminars and symposia, Edo BEST teachers are usually engaged in various high level events; Edo BEST teachers have been invited to be panellists at various conferences.

Edo SUBEB is determined to keep creating opportunities for teachers to become consultants and resource persons across the nation and beyond, thereby restoring the dignity and prestige of the profession.

*An upcoming Edo STAR (Supporting Teachers to Achieve Results) awards ceremony will recognize and reward outstanding teachers across the 18 LGAs.*

The welfare of teachers is sacrosanct to us and as such remains a priority. Without them, our schools will be grounded. On this auspicious day of the International Teachers’ Day celebration, the SUBEB family heartily congratulate and appreciate teachers for their role in nation building and implores them to keep up the good work.

Edo BEST provides quality education for every child

Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe,

Executive Chairman,

Edo SUBEB.
