Ag. Governor Hon. Philip Shuaibu Visits SUBEB Teachers in Training

Teachers of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) currently in training at the Samuel Ogbemudia College (New Era College), were delighted to receive the Deputy, and currently, Ag. Governor of the State, His Excellency, Hon. Philip Shuaibu, who paid a courtesy visit to teachers participating in the Edo BEST training exercise to observe the training sessions. In his entourage were the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Osarodion Ogie, and Honorable Commissioner of Education, Emmanuel Agbale.

About 4600 teachers and headteachers are currently undergoing training as part of the Teacher Professional Development programme. It should be recalled that about seven thousand (7,000) teachers and headteachers have already been trained, inaugurated and kitted with computer gadgets and smartphones as part of the new instructional materials to aid their proficiency and guarantee efficiency in service delivery.

Addressing the teachers, the Ag. Governor expressed Government’s commitment towards the resuscitation of education in the State. “Edo state government is committed to the resuscitation of education in the State for the development of every Edo child”, he noted. He opined that the training has equipped public primary school teachers with the right tools to shape and sharpen pupils both in learning and in character.

Responding, the Executive Chairman, Edo SUBEB, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe, pointed out that the teachers in training have been selected from schools across the 3 Senatorial districts. She noted that they are being trained on new methods of teaching and school management after which they will be equipped with Teacher Computers and Smartphones like their 7,000 colleagues who have already undergone training.

Appreciating the State Government’s efforts in the revolutionary Edo BEST initiative, one of the teachers in training, the Headteacher of Imaguero Primary School in Oredo LGA, Mrs Victoria Banje, noted that the training has afforded them the exposure to modern techniques in delivering lessons. “I thank the State Government for the opportunity and sue for its sustenance” she responded.

The Governor Godwin Obaseki administration in recognition of the unique role of basic education, has placed the provision of quality education for pupils in the State at the apex of his administration’s
objectives in order to ensure that every child in Edo is educated in consonance with changing times and society’s demands.
